A lot of Rays fans think the Rays' outfield is the strongest position group right now, with one of Melton (AAA), Mesa Jr., Simpson, or Deluca taking over CF next year. Simpson and Mesa Jr. have had very good years in the field and might be primed for a promotion to CF. Melton was expected to be the heir apparent to CF but has missed a lot of time this year due to injury. Deluca is more than capable of fielding CF but he has injury issues whenever asked to play too much. So Bader might be an option, but it's not a huge need considering the Rays in-house options. Rays also are likely to promote one or both of Gillen or Overn mid-season next year. All that said, most Rays fans would love to get rid of Matz, so I wouldn't reject this trade out of hand for that reason alone. Whisenhunt doesn't interest me though. Rays would prefer to keep Urbina.
