Cards have holes to fill to become immediate contenders #1 is to get a solid 3B now versus waiting for Jesus Baez to ascend. Schmitt is blocked at third and currently stuck in OF, plus Giants picked up Mayer, so Schmitt is not a priority at 3 B for Giants. Dobbins is going to be a very good 4-5 pitcher, but the cards will have 10 to choose from in the next two years. Giants need MLB ready arms for 2027. Have to give to get, so this looks like a decent match for both teams, but cards would need to have a sense of urgency and kick in other pieces if necessary. Mendes would be nice but not essential.
Dobbins is very much wildly overvalued, I think the idea of a Cardinals-Giants trade swapping 3B and pitching makes a lot of sense but just not this one.
Can’t say that I disagree with the over rated in Dobbins……just staying within the valuations that are set here. Mcgreevey is over valued as well, but would he work as an adequate substitue for Dobbins in your eyes, or even Pallante ? Unfortunately using this model would kick out Mcgreevey as an overpay unless I Include even more from the Giants side. I think Schmitt is currently undervalued as well, so a Mcgreevey for Schmitt works as well, while Pallante would need another piece to make the deal equitable.
