Ignore Daniel Espino in this trade. He's only there because I could not validate the two prospects and 60M in cash. Jim Bowden, a real life former GM, proposed this trade in an article in The Athletic: A's get: Battenfield Fox Guardians get: Murphy Remember this whenever you think you're bad at your job and it will cheer you right up because you could not be this bad at whatever you do.

Just my opinion, but I’m fine with seeing what Lavastida and Naylor can do behind the dish. If Murphy is needed it wouldn’t be until the 23 season. I’m not a Murphy fan at his current value listed here either. Having said that Battenfield, Fox and another prospect is probably fair, but it wouldn’t be one in the top 10-15.

I've got no problem with Cleveland trying Lavastida and Naylor in 2023. But saying Battenfield, Fox, and another non-Top 15 prospect would be fair for Murphy would be ludicrous at even half his listed value.

Bowden is a clown. I agree that I am fine waiting for Bo Naylor and Lavastida. The small offensive gain that Murphy would bring is not worth the trade capital that it would take.

Again... I think the plan to use Lavastida and Naylor in 2023 has merit and I'm not advocating the Guardians trade for Murphy. But Cleveland catchers have hit 158/248/248 for a 45 wRC+. Sean Murphy is at 240/307/413 for a 107 wRC+. More than doubling the current offensive output is not a "small offensive gain" at any starting position.

Still not worth the trade capital that it would take in my opinion.

And I'm fine with that opinion.
