Spikes

In the category of "What have done for me lately", McNeil doesn't match up well with Lauer and Tellez. However, I can't ignore McNeil's career stats. Last year was the only year he hit under .300. His 162 game averages over his career are: .299/.364/.459 with an OPS of .824. He doesn't strike out a lot (12.5% career average and still only 13.6% last year), he plays multiple positions, and he has affordable 3 years of control. With Tellez gone, he would probably get lots of work at 1B unless the Brewers bring in another 1B. And, even if they do, with a DH and giving Urias, Wong, or Renfoe rests, he will get plenty of at bats. He also hits LH pitching at a .289 career average so he can still be valuable against same side pitching. I would guess the Brewers would hate to give up there only LHS pitcher who had a good year last year, but I think he's the main reason the Mets might make this trade. The Brewers have to ask themselves if Ashby is ready to take over that spot and will Small be available sometime later in 2022. In summary, as a Brewer fan, I wouldn't be disappointed in this trade. I would still think the Brewers would look for additional hitting, but they still have good trade value to offer, and McNeil would be added depth.
