Padres have been looking to dump that Hosmer contract for some time now. Marlins could be willing to eat up a good chunk of that contract and give the Padres some valuable assets if the Padres are willing to give up top prospect Abrams. Realistically I believe the Marlins could get either Paddack or Weathers in this deal but both could be a stretch. Padres in return for giving up top young players get a good starting pitcher that won't be a FA until 2025 and a more than capable 1st Baseman/ Outfielder in Cooper. This deal also give the Padres some freedom to go after some FA's now with Hosmer's contract off the books.

I like the framework. But SD needs both quality and quantity in their pitching staff, as decimated as it's been. In other words, they'd be better off keeping Paddack and Weathers. And I'm not sure Miami needs more pitching, either, as that's their strength. So maybe sub out those two.

Maybe take out Paddack and replace him with someone like Campusano but Weathers could be a very good piece for Miami out of the pen.
