I mean, it depends on the type of injuries for me. Is it a chronic soft tissue issue? Concussions? Sure, that's a major red flag (and Buxton has had a concussion previously from a diving grab) but a lot of his injuries are fluky like a toe injury from a foul ball. Despite missing a month (half of the season thus far) with a hip issue he's still in the top 20 in WAR on most sites. That to me puts him at least at roughly a 50 and you could argue as high as 80 on the trade value amount. Is he more valuable than Judge? Which of the two are more injury prone? They both haven't played a full season since 2017... Is he really ~1/3 the value of AARON NOLA??? No, not even close. This post wasn't meant to start a fight about what his value is rather it is just to point out that I PERSONALLY think it is higher around the league compared to what it is on this site.

Fair enough. But keep in mind that he also has only 1.7 years of control left, so it's just going to go lower from here the closer he gets to free agency.

Oh for sure! That's why I think the Twins would be smart to shop him around once he comes back healthy. He hits almost like Judge but plays the best defensive CF in baseball with a similar injury history and the same amount of team control remaining. Best time to cash in is now when he provides no value to them this year.

This was a tough one to sort through. I think Buxton is majorly undervalued given his performance in April and his rehab stint so far. He's a top 5 player in MLB right now but he's injury prone... hard to evaluate. I included Astudillo and cash as a way to offset the difference in value but I think Buxton and 2 relievers would be sufficient for Pache and Shuster. If not, feel free to drop a comment on why you think it is off. Also, cannot discount Buxton being from Georgia as part of the evaluation. Increased chance Atlanta can extend him if they want to.

Buxton has all the talent in the world, but he hasn't played anything resembling a full season of baseball since 2017. That's four years of injuries. The best predictor of future injury is previous injury, which is why his valuation is not higher.
