2A while back, I made a previous blockbuster trade proposal between the Mets & Indians regarding Lindor, and fresh off Anthony Castrovince's article of Lindor's next possible destination, as well as seeing the needs between the two teams, I took the time out to do this one. Last winter, Cleveland was interested in Amed Rosario when the Mets called about Lindor. With Cohen soon to be approved, the Mets biggest monkey off their back (Lack of $$$) is gone, and not only can they afford to take on Lindor, but do exactly like the Dodgers did with Mookie Betts by giving him a long term extension, pairing him up the middle with Gimenez. While Rosario had an overall down year, I fully expect him to bounce back in a full season next year (fingers crossed). He found his stroke again at the very end (.366/.409/.463/.873 in September), and let's not forget that he led the Mets in hits in '18 & '19. He's someone that needs a change in scenery ala d'Arnaud. I see a similar situation in Oscar Mercado, who'd fill the void in CF that's been left by the Mets for years. Speaking of which, while it was a nice bounce back year for Diaz, I believe that this is the time for the Mets to sell high. The bullpen has more problems than solutions, and they should look to sell on anything of value there and build up the pen properly this time. I've always seen Nimmo as an ideal fit in Cleveland, and that has yet to change. A .400 OBP leadoff type is exactly what Cleveland needs at the top of the order. I'd even say it would be wise of them to give him an extension before he even reaches FA. The crown jewel here is Ronny Mauricio, a kid I'm personally very high on, as well as the organization. This is the first guy I'd ask about if I'm the Indians. A switch hitting, 6'3" SS prospect with great athleticism, plus contact & power potential. I can see the Indians also asking about Josh Wolf, a kid with a similar pitching profile to Plesac. It wouldn't surprise me if they listened on him again this offseason.
Thank you for sharing your reasoning for this proposal. Personally, I was not a fan of Castrovince's article and some of his trade ideas. I don't see the Indians trading a Plesac or McKenzie quite as easily as he did. It is hard for me to see the small market Indians trading away pitching controlled for 5 years (Plesac), or 6 years (McKenzie). I think that they would more likely try to trade from their pitching depth first. Second, I don't see the Indians having any interest in Edwin Diaz at his salary. Cleveland Indian President Chris Antonetti recently discussed the team's financial losses due to covid-19. I can see them using James Karinchak, Emmanuel Clase (from the Corey Kluber trade) and Nick Wittgren to form the back end of their bullpen for 2021. Nimmo would definitely fill a need for the Indians, but they may look to find someone with more team control. I usually feel like I have a good read on how Cleveland's front office operates given their financial restrictions, but with covid-19 I don't have a good feel on how they will react in the trade market. As far as the prospects mentioned, Wolf does sound like Cleveland's type of pitcher from what I have read on him. Cleveland's farm system is loaded with middle infield prosects, but the strength of it is at the lower levels where Mauricio currently is at. It sounds that Mauricio could end up at 3B. I think that there is a good chance that the Mets and Indians can work a deal although I am not sure that it would reach this ten player level. Again, I appreciate your reasoning and that you focused on both teams when making your offer. Not everyone on here does that as well as you have tried to do. I do see the Mets and the Angels as being the most interested especially if the Indians do decide to move pitching. I can see Atlanta and the Dodgers involved if the Indians do decide to move a starter.
