Rays get: Gallo is an impact hitter with great underlying numbers that the Rays would love to have in their lineup. With team control, he fits the Rays system as well, basically being the perfect star the Rays can trade for. Since they give up 2 premium pitching prospects, however, they will also get Carlos Estevez from the Rockies. Although he struggled in 2019, he has some really good pitches and could be yet another fantastic reliever for the Rays if control is reigned in. Rangers get: A top prospect starting pitcher prospect from the Rays in Shane Baz for trading Joey Gallo. He's already got a super high ceiling, and developing in the Rays system definitely will do him wonders. They also get Sam Hilliard, a potential 5-tool player, and immediate replacement to Gallo in the lineup. Bonus points for sending Hilliard home to Texas, where he can be with his father battling ALS. By the way, make sure to support that charity! Rockies get: A defensive CF in Kevin Kiermaier, sure to help with the expansive Coors Field gaps. For the Rays, the Kiermaier contract is quite an expensive contract and since the Rockies are taking it, they also get Shane McClanahan. The Rockies ALWAYS need pitcher prospects so this will help them out long term.
