2This trade is probably the best that the Red Sox can expect. I like your use of money to get a better trade. I don't think that the Diamondbacks do this deal without the money. JDM+Barnes for Beer would not happen.
JDM & Barnes are both owed roughly $3M for the rest of the season according to Spotrac.com. According to Ken Rosenthal, this is probably the only way trades for big money players happens this deadline. I feel like Beer is stretch but I also didn't think Hembree/Workman would net the caliber of players they received in that trade.
