In all sincerity, Cleveland has no interest in Pages. They wouldn’t trade a moldy PB&J sandwich for him…
Brewers have no interest in Rosario even as a rental since he just costs to much for the lower budget Brewers.
Adames would be hard to replace for the Brewers right now on paper. I am guessing it would have to be two deals…
One where they trade Woodruff/Burnes for a SS to replace Adames and another deal were they trade Adames for the SP to replace Woodruff/Burnes… They would essentially get 6-8 prospects back for Woodruff/Burnes and Adames and one would have to be able to go into the Rotation and one would have to be able to start at SS no problems.
If the Brewers wanted to do this, they would have done it near the winter meetings, but they felt the deals weren’t there so they decided against it…
Milwaukee says no thanks. They already have better prospects than Arias. Rosario is a rental. Stone is good, but the rest of the package is far too weak for the Brewers.
I think it’s great that the Brewers have prospects that are better than Arias but they’re also further away. For the Brewers; Rosario gets to play SS for ‘23 & then they reap the rewards for him signing elsewhere as a free agent in ‘24. Arias takes over SS in ‘24 while the team waits on these, better then him prospects, to get to the show, and Stone steps right into the back end of the rotation and he can ride the shuttle if need be in ‘23 & ‘24. Dodgers get the SS they need for 2 years in Adames and the Guardians get a top 100 Power hitting corner Outfielder prospect in Pages plus a very nice Catching prospect.
I’ll be honest, you are underestimating Arias as a prospect and Stone is a good one…
Brewers though would have no interest in Rosario since he costs more than Adames and plays a lesser overall game. Brewers would want another SP back with Arias and Stone since Burnes and Woodruff are both likely gone soon…
What SS prospects do the Brewers have that are “better” than Arias? Which one of their SS prospects hit 302/339/470/809 as a 19 yr old in A+ ball or hit 284/348/454/802 as a 21 yr old in AAA after skipping AA ball altogether? We won’t even mention Arias’ superior defense to any MIL SS prospect. I already know the answer to this question, but I’m interested in what you have to say.
The Brewers have Turang (.286/.360/.772 – 78 RBIs – .977 Fld% at shortstop) who was in AAA last year. With him taking over SS for Adames, there would be no reason to get Arias or to pay Rosario the near $8M he is owed as a rental. There is no way Milwaukee would offer Rosario a qualifying offer, so there are no benefits (other than not paying his salary) when he leaves. The Brewers could get a better deal for themselves if they just traded Adames to the Dodgers.
Turang is their only option and he is nowhere near Arias defensively. Turang’s best position is 2B.
I don’t blame the fans of any team not having interest in Rosario and sure as hell isn’t a fit in MIL.
You want an excellent offensive comparison to Adames when speaking of ability then look no further than Arias. Eerily similar. Arias probably gets the nod defensively though. Arias is being used as a utility in Cleveland because nobody else can fill the position as completely as he can. This is why I was adamant about acquiring Rengifo. If Rosario has another home it will be for the Angels.
If MIL has to throw in the towel then this deal would be good for them getting Arias and Stone. I’d happily deal with Rosario for a season to get a future SS and stud SP prospect that is damn near ready. Who it doesn’t work for is Cleveland. They have no need/use for Pages and Galiz does nothing for them right now other than offer minor league depth.
Another nugget from the percolator….

As usual, your proposal makes little sense for the Guardians.
