The Mets get a quality relief pitcher that can help the team win right now.

The Cardinals get their SS of the future with a plus plus glove, plus base running, and potential for a decent bat.

While giving up a bullpen arm like Gallegos is difficult, it deals from a position of depth for the Redbirds.

Likewise the Mets trade a top 100 prospect, but one that is almost major-league ready and is blocked by the established infield currently in New York.

Mateo Gill helps balance the trade and gives the Mets a middle infielder whose developmental arc better matches with their other prospects to create the big league club’s next infield group.
