  1. Surface Tension

Braves need a lefty bat after Markakis opted out (and is presumably headed to retirement). Reds could use more young players, and Winker is rather superfluous with the glut of outfielders the Reds currently have.

No idea how this 60-man player pool trade thing works, so not sure if this would even be legal this season.

It is my understanding that a team can only trade a player that is on their 60 man roster. They can add players later if need be. With that said, Shewmake is on their 60 man roster. The questions will be: Do the Braves spend that prospect piece on Winker? Do the Reds sell a piece on their major league roster on a prospect during a year that they hope to compete. All in all, this is an interesting trade proposal. Winker would fit their need for a lefty bat that can hit right handed pitching.

Yeah, agreed. This one makes a fair amount of sense for both clubs.

With freeman potentially missing a lot of time and a ton of money about to come off the books, it wouldn’t shock me if the braves kind of punt on this season to really go for broke next year

I think the Reds should try to squeeze the Braves with a slightly bigger trade. They have what the Braves needs.
Are the Braves going to use Waters and Pache? They are loaded with talent.
