Revision to a previously posted trade. Less pieces involved and only includes players who are eligible to be moved this deadline. General structure is around Clevinger/Waters/Yaz three-way swap, but that on its own was too imbalanced for this particular trade simulator.

I imagine Giants would need more than just Waters. I understand that he is a high level high ceiling prospect, but I imagine a Patrick Weigel or so would get the job done

    • Justin Byler

Yeah it’s so hard to appraise the value of anyone this deadline cause there are so many unknowns. If the requisite on top of Waters was Weigel for the Braves to get both Clevinger and Flores I think they should be ok with that. But who knows. As good as Yaz has been, looking at the MLB Top 100 Prospects, I can’t imagine them being able to get anyone higher than Waters at 27. If they can then congrats to them!

      • Luke Reed

I actually think your proposal is spot-on. Despite his affordable control, Yaz is already 30 years old. So I reckon they’d value Waters and his alignment with a youthful rebuild mighty high.

  3. Ryan Anderson

Really like this trade idea. I think it works well for every party. Cleveland biggest need being outfield help. Atlanta needing starting pitching. Giants needing to rebuild. Think this trade is also very flexible with the Braves being able to send the Giants a plethora of different prospect packages. Biggest question would be Indians willingness to move Clevinger.

    • Justin Byler

Yeah I also liked the flexibility aspect of it. Cleveland’s willingness to move Clevinger will definitely be a huge factor, especially if there’s any truth to the rumors of their demanded return (not sure I buy most of it), but something a friend has also brought up was if Atlanta would be willing to take Clevinger in? Especially considering what happened with Freeman.

    • Justin Byler

Yeah I tend to agree, but I was just going off the value metrics given here. What’s perhaps nice about this deal is the Giants have multiple pieces that could interest Atlanta (Flores, Gausman, maybe an additional bullpen arm) and the Braves could send a bit more to San Francisco for one or multiple of those pieces. But also Waters is highly touted and Yaz and Flores are not on the teams long-term timeline so who knows?
