As a Red Sox fan, I hate this trade, but I also love this trade. Would love Kimbrel for the bullpen again, but giving up Jordan would sting. Realistically, I don’t think we get Kimbrel because that would put the payroll over the luxury tax line, which the Red Sox don’t want to do.

The luxury tax probably is an issue. Great comment.

I’ve offered a trade that gives the Cubs three useful prospects and two negative-value veterans they’ll need post-deadline, after the “fire sale.” In return, Boston would get Kimbrel, Wieck (a career AAAA journeyman having a flukishly good season), and Sogard (a Brewers throwaway who fits a platoon role in Boston). No cash is involved. By the numbers, the Cubs win–important in a Kimbrel trade.

But vegasgk made a very good attempt to structure a fair deal that’s less complicated.

The bigger Red Sox need is 1B . I also would think that the Cubs would expect better a proscept return since their six million add-in. Some other team could easily over it.
