Fair, leaning towards more-then-fair towards Oakland, but I oppose trading significant assets for rentals.
It depends on how the A’s are doing at the deadline. They wouldn’t make this trade today. But tied for the Wild Card on July 25 after a winning road trip against Minnesota and Houston? Then I think Beane and Forst pull the trigger on a deal like this.
You also have to take into account the psychological aspect of getting Bumgarner. Likely a leadership lift for the A’s locker room and a boost for the fans.
Armenteros is a very skilled yet FLAWED prospect with awful plate discipline. Of any of the A’s prospects, I think he’s the most likely to be moved by the deadline or next Winter.
