Rangers are building a pitching empire.. trading away one of their best is unlikely.. Other clubs would gladly take him.. but…

Interesting take. What I see is different: Martin Perez has been their only successful starter at the MLB level, and two of their top pitching prospects, Leiter and Winn, have struggled badly all year and have seen their values drop accordingly. Owen White looks promising, but other than that, there’s not much. I don’t think this deal makes sense for them, but I do think they’re concerned about the pitching going forward. That’s why they traded for Antoine Kelly at the deadline.

Hmm.. offering that MiLB numbers, without context, can be misleading.. If a pitcher is being coached & working on a specific thing (feel pitch, like a knuckle curve or split finger fastball).. then their “numbers” could be skewed disadvantageously…

It’s not an end all.. as nothing in baseball replaces winning.. but there are times when the W is, at the very most a split priority..

w/r to the Antoine Kelly “deal”.. I thought that was a deal done from the Brewers perspective that helped their sagging pen while ridding the Rangers of Matt Bush.. Bush is one of those guys who looked like he’d become a star.. but the drugs and circumstances led him astray.. btw.. Mark Mathias was a guy the Indians drafted.. always thought he was left off the 40 man a year too soon.. sort of like Joey Wendle..

        Thanks for the comment..

How do Smith and Heim fit in Cleveland? Garcia can absolutely mash, but where are you playing him? What would Cleveland do with Straw, Benson, Brennan, Jones and Gonzalez if Garcia was brought aboard?

Leiter looks to have the goods and would be a nice addition to the already incredibly deep SP ranks in Akron and/or Columbus.

If Texas were interested in Bieber, and they probably are because they have no real ace as John mentioned, then the deal I posted that would have Lowe, Winn and Leiter coming back seems a bit more realistic. GSon mentioned the possibility that development of certain pitches could explain Leiter and Winn’s downturn, but since when has Texas developed SP?

Could there be a bigger deal that sent one of Plesac/Civale along with Bieber to Texas?
