I doubt Bloom & the Red Sox (or any other team) have any interest in Murphy at this inflated level.

When JT Realmuto was traded from Miami to Philly in the 2018/19 offseason he was coming off a 4.9 fWAR season anchored by quality defense and a 127 wRC+. He had produced 11.6 fWAR in his first 4, full seasons.

Murphy is at 4.7 fWAR, anchored by quality defense and a 126 wRC+. Murphy’s first “full” season was 2020, so he’s really only had roughly 2.5 seasons to compile 10.2 fWAR.

The Marlins got a Top 20 prospect in Sixto Sanchez, an immediate MLB starter with 6 years of team control in Jorge Alfaro, a 40 FV SP prospect in Will Stewart, plus International slot bonus money. The most significant difference in comparing the two players is Realmuto had two years of team control remaining vs. Murphy’s 3 years.

Please explain how Murphy’s value is inflated.
