The A’s are loaded with right-handed hitters even after the Piscotty injury, including a few who are ready and waiting in AAA, so I don’t get why they’d need yet another one from the trade market.
There’s a huge thread about this on AN, and I’m clearly in the minority. I would love to add another legitimately good hitter to the lineup if Piscotty’s out, and be able to keep the depth pieces who have been performing well in their important depth roles. As your trade values show, adding a decent position player as a rental is extremely cheap — it would cost us a lot less to upgrade in this way than trading for a starting pitcher or reliever who would add similar value, IMO. (I also think we should do that, btw, but am in favor of getting the most for the least!)
It’s certainly cheap, that’s true. I think if Castellanos was a better defender, I could squint and see it. But because he’s a butcher in RF, I think the bigger issue for the A’s is: where would they play him? He’s really a DH, but there’s no room there.
Points for making a good case, though!
