I’m struggling to see this one from the Royals’ point of view. I get why they’d want to clear salary on Kennedy, but why would they give up all that prospect capital for Aguilar? Why would they need him during their rebuilding years?

I think the value of Kennedy is a little low on here, so both Lynch and Singer are probably too much in real life. But from the Royals perspective, it’s a salary dump plus the addition of an All-Star 1B with a wRC+ of 124 against LHP over past 1.5 seasons (Royals 1B this year against LHP: 54 wRC+) who has 3.5 years of control left.

You’re right about Kennedy’s value — you caught it just before we updated it to reflect his midseason numbers. So it is indeed higher than that now.

Still don’t think Aguilar fits the Royals’ next window, but I suppose there’s a case where he could be flipped later.
