Just a little to unpack here..
The Marlins are looking for young/controllable bats that can slot into their lineup, if not opening day, immediately thereafter.. After the acquisition of Luis Arraez, Brett Baty is the “next” guy they’re looking for at for the long term need at the hot corner.
The Mets are looking at three of their starting pitchers all starting the year at ages 36, 39, and 40.. a scary as F notion with the expectation of Contending. Allen is ML ready and throws quality strikes.. Adding Berry who has an uncanny knack for barreling the ball/hitting for both power and average & projected to be a better hitter than Baty is the cherry on top for this deal.
Cleveland’s participation is primarily as a facilitator.. Getting a Comp A pick, the young LHP and the young Catcher makes the most sense for them..
I don’t think the other teams do this, but I don’t see why Cleveland wouldn’t do this…
When do you see a three-team trade of all prospects? Not very likely.
I’d definitely think of moving Allen for Eder and the Comp pick though… I feel like that wouldn’t be much of a drop off at all…
