I doubt the Phillies add another big contract to the rotation. With Wheeler, Nola, Ranger, Walker, Painter, Abel, and McGarry, Rodriguez and his big contract don’t seem like a good fit.

Kingery is not getting his option picked up for next year and I think he might still be arb eligible. If he is I think he would be non-tendered. He isn’t even on the 40-man anymore. I think he will get a long look in spring with many players off at the WBC but don’t expect him to be much more than a replacement-level utility guy IF he makes the club.

Absent Dave Dombrowski suffering head trauma, this is the last year of Kingery’s deal. Trading a guy who was going to be an overpaid part time player in Allentown on his way out the door in exchange for taking on $63 million in salary for a guy who has managed an ERA under 4.00 in only two of his seasons (and the last time was 2019) would be malpractice.
