This trade idea interests me. Among all the trades involving the Braves that I’ve seen on this site over the past few weeks, and the Braves are my team, this is among the best. Thanks for sharing it.
If we’re just going with the presented numbers here. the Braves are getting an attractive return. I love Max Fried and it’s pretty close between him and Gallen for me. I’m for Fried every time, but it’s close. Getting Tyler O’Neil is awfully enticing. In this trade, if those two pitchers are this much of equivalents, it’s essentially turning Elder, Shuster and a gift horse into a Top 25 Outfielder for the Braves. And O’Neil’s a Top 25 in value, according to this site.
I don’t have a clue as to why Arizona would willingly go along with this sort of trade. I’m sold on Gallen but why trade now? Trading for a 3B that compliments the roster of the” Baby Backs” with a guy like Gorman makes a lot of sense to me. I like the upside on Matt Liberatore with the Cards, I think he’s better than the numbers show and I’m fringe-y on Elder but he’s still on the younger side for me. I think they’re both Major Leaguers who will continue to improve. I just don’t find any evidence of them being guys to dream on. They’re a close enough match up with the timetable that I think Arizona has in mind but not the quality. As Arizona, I’d only part with Zac Gallen right now for the caliber of someone like Andrew Painter in the Phillies’ system. Gorman’s good and there’s a decent fit I think, however, it’s only a trade of top stuff for top stuff for me as Arizona.
I like the side for the Card’s ok. I dig Tyler O’Neil but I also am high on Juan Yepez, so maybe there’s a way to shore up that LF in 2023 with Yepez and by adding Max Fried to the rotation it’s better. I don’t have confidence in that being a good fit but what team wouldn’t want Max Fried? It just seems to me like Liberatore, O’Neil and Goram can all be very useful the the Cards in ’23.
It’s an all-around cool idea. I’ll be thinking more about it and maybe change my mind on some of it.
Thanks Man, I built this one, I’m a Cardinal fan. Just feel like the Cards really need to find an Ace and Fried is it. The Cardinals also need to open a spot for Jordan Walker and moving Tyler ONeill would do that. If Walker isn’t ready Yepez or Burleson will be, just a lot of young OF depth and ONeill would look good on the Braves. LF is there only kind of weak spot. Gorman really needs to play 3B and isn’t going to do that in STL. Playing 2nd becomes more tough for him without the shift and Brendan Donavan took that job. I’m not sure if D-Backs would be interested, but they may not be ready to compete before Gallen hits free agency and they could sell early for a haul of young guys headlined by Gorman who is a local kid that could be a cornerstone to go with the rest of their great young dudes
