Brewers clearly aren’t willing to extend Burnes and Woodruff, so it may be time to move them

The Brewers are not tanking. Even if the Brewers were giving up on winning for the next 3-4 years, they wouldn’t make this trade.

They haven’t offered woodruff or Burnes and extension and each has 2 years left before FA. Attanasio isn’t spending money (aka is cheap) and there are huge holes in the roster. They haggled with Burnes for .74 on ARB and accused him of costing them the playoffs last season. If you don’t think this is the last hurrah for this group, you’re ignoring the obvious. They are going to move both aces either by the deadline (when they will likely be out of both the the division and final WC spot) or next winter, then build around Churio. Adames is probably gone too. This guy doesn’t spend and that’s not changing. I think Painter is a great get if they’re blowing it up. I like Burnes for Álvarez/Baty as well. Something is happening regardless, they should be extending both these guys and building around them but if you’re not seeing the writing on the wall, you’re not paying attention. I see both these guys going to a contender that can spend and has high end prospects (Mets, Dodgers. Phillies, Yankeees, Braves or maybe Rangers). If not Painter, who would you get back? And again, you’re timeline of 3-4 years doesn’t add up…they’re FA’s in 2 years and a decision to trade both with happen before then….
