LAD: Lux will miss the start of the regular season, if not longer, due to an ugly non-contact injury he sustained while running the bases in the 3rd game of spring training. Miguel Rojas is average, but is not a good hitter. There is no one else behind him. I do not think Chris Taylor should play short. Rosario solves the SS problem and they can afford to resign him to play short for a few more years. When Lux comes back, it could serve the Dodgers and Lux well to put him back at his natural position of 2B, Rosario at short, and Rojas as a quality utility infielder.

CLE: Rosario is headed to free agency. With an embarrassment up the middle of the diamond, Rosario has always been a good trade cannidate for the Guardians. Phil Bickford is a quality, high leverage middle reliever to team up with the dominant back of the bullpen for CLE. Nick Frasso’s stock has soared, and could push the envelope to the MLB soon, and at worst wait in the wings as high quality/upside pitching depth. CLE’s development staff loves pitchers like him.
The Marlins got Jacob Amaya, a notable (LAD #14 in 2022) prospect in return for Rojas(also in a contract year before Dodgers extended him), so the Guardians should definetely use that as a measuring stick and aim for a considerably higher return for Rosario.

EDIT: Lux done for season, this trade now makes too much sense for the Dodgers. If they get desperate with Rojas and whomever else they bring in, they might even be willing to overpay.

If you look at the lineup now, LAD has a good 3 hitters in Mookie, Freddie, and Will Smith. After that there isn’t anyone notable. The depth will be tested.

I’d say on paper Cleveland should do this, but I don’t think they are actually going to trade Rosario now. I think they want to keep a veteran on the roster.

As they should, but I believe that PBO Andrew Friedman and GM Brandon Gomes should make a phone call or two to CLE president of baseball ops Chris Antonetti and co.

I have a hunch the Dodgers aren’t as interested in Rosario as people think.
