I’m a Braves fan. I also like Chris Paddack a lot. He recently signed a $12.5MM/3 contract with the Twins. Why would the Twins be looking to move him now? He’s not scheduled to be able to pitch again until August or September. Why would the Braves want to trade away pretty good relief pitcher like Minter for him?
The Atlanta Braves are the 2021 World Series Champions. Their bullpen, the Night Shift, that was really, really good. Arguably, in the 2022 postseason their bullpen was looking like a top 5. Coming into the 2023 here, MLB.com has it ranked as the best unit. AJ Minter is at the core of this bullpen just like he was in years past. Why trade him now?
Is this more or less a swap out of Rosario for Max Kepler and Minter kind of balances the BBTV ledger? Those two outfielders’ contracts, going forward, are quite similar. I like that symmetry and I like Max Kepler much better than Rosario. However, the difference in what I think each of the hitters is capable of in 2023 is far less than the value I think Minter has. I think Paddack could be a big factor in the final two months (maybe two) but it’s not a factor for most of the season and not enough of a factor overall. I also am expecting that Rosario’s beating the projections that sites like Fangraphs has for him. It’s all about seeing it clearly. 🙂
I don’t see why this could interest the Braves. As for the Twins, they were rumored to have been shopping Max Kepler but no takers. Does trading for ex-Twins’ guy, Eddie Rosario address anything in that regard?
