I’ve liked a number of your submitted trades, Mr. Dodger. I also like the Braves and Orlando Arcia. This trade though, this one I don’t like. I wonder what you’re thinking. You usually have some decent comments and interesting proposals but I just can’t make sense of this one. Did someone hack your account?
The Braves have Orlando Arcia on a pretty decent contract for a bench guy. The contract is for about $1.3MM this year and a Club Option for next year ($2MM). Not too shabby.
Arcia’s good. He has already has 5 years of service time in the Majors and’s just 27. He and the Braves are probably quite familiar with each other by this point and the press has nothing but good things to say about the guy. I don’t think Orland Arcia’s not quite Dansby Swanson or Ozhaino Albies but Arcia has exceeded my expectations while wearing a Braves uniform. Pressed into longer service last year, he was an above average bat. Compared to other MLB player with around the same amount of game time and also able to play multiple positions, he was even better. Why trade him now?
Arcia’s the backup for Vaughn Grissom. I’m 100% cheering for Grissom. I do, however, believe that there’s good value in being able to take a rookie out of the lineup if he’s slumping and work it or rest a day and Arcia allows for that. Also, Arcia’s been in the Majors and with Atlanta and been a winner and been successful. What isn’t there to like here?
Also, the Braves are shorter in depth with the infield spots and Arcia fills in there. Albies was hurt twice last year. Who’s the backup for 3B and 1B in Atlanta? I have Arcia at the top of my list if there’s a need. The Braves don’t have much to fall back on and Arcia’s contract is pretty favorable for the team.
There’s nothing going with this trade. It’s all nice and cute that the values from this site equate and it’s unfortunate that it’s the best thing I have to say in my response to this trade. Reports for Angel Chivilli look favorable but he was in low A ball in ’22 and the Braves aren’t trading away a guy like Arcia for that sort of lottery ticket. Got something provocative to share about Chivilli like you think he’s a big steal and despite the moniker you’re really a homer for the Braves like I am?
Mr. Dodger, I see you have posted nearly 20 proposals over the past two days and this site’s all about posting such ideas. The site’s really about the responses though, whether that’s active or passive, a thumbs or not a thumbs. I do like your one line responses and I do like your trade proposals. Just not this one. I understand that while I’m a whole more about being an essayist and you’re mostly good a a one line quip, I’d like to hear more about this trade idea. Whatever you wanna do. There’s room in this forum for both styles and I hope that you’ll hook us up with a response.
