Don’t think the Rays have interest in Tellez. His $5MM salary is an issue, as would be the fact that his addition would mean a DFA for L.Raley (who the Rays seem excited about). This deal might make a ton of sense at the Deadline though.
Milwaukee would have absolutely no interest in this at any time. Tellez hit 35 HRs and drove in 90 runs last year. Plus he should benefit greatly by the no shift rule. What the Rays are giving up is a lottery ticket in Barnhart (he has thrown exactly one inning since he was drafted in 2020 and has a history of arm problems) and Fleming who was terrible last year and didn’t do much in AA or AAA. The numbers might add up, but not the production.
Yeah, I agree with JMont on the return. If Tellez is traded, the Brewers are going to want more future consideration than Fleming provides.
That said, Tellez isn’t exactly a must have player. His 35 HRs only resulted in a 110 wRC+ because his OBP was only .306. He’s a good piece to have but not worth a top prospect.
