Another overpay by Preller, as I think most of us will agree. Profar was a non-tender candidate, and yet the A’s somehow managed to talk Preller into giving them a catcher with some upside AND a PTBNL.

We know he’s under pressure from his owner to win now, so he’s making short-term moves despite the long-term cost. He just traded a guy with six years of control and a decent bat for a guy with one year of control who can’t throw and can’t hit righties, but if it means saving his job, I guess it’s worth it to him.

As a Padres fan, I agree this 100% appears to be what’s happening. Even the Drew Pomeranz signing. He’s a good player, but it’s an overpay for sure. But, what does Preller care? If he doesn’t win now he won’t have the job anyways.
As far as fans falling in line, I’m afraid hockeyjohn is right. I think too many fans think Zach Davies is way better than he really is. Also, fans seem to ignore the prospect pedigrees (or lack thereof) of Urias and Grisham. Maybe it really isn’t worth THAT much after a player has played a couple months in the majors, but surely it should count for something.
Preller has made a series of moves that defy logic over his tenure in San Diego and this just continues that.
How long can he live off of getting Tatis and Paddack for Shields and Rodney?

Was Preller’s hard-on for Profar the reason he gave up on Luis Urias?
I’m starting to think yes.
I can’t believe this is an actual trade

AJ Preller is a mystery. What is more of a mystery to me is how many Padre fans fall in line and support his questionable moves.

Go ahead and delete my post I was just trying to see how bad it was lol
I can’t help but wonder… is there any chance Preller likes Treinen???
Grover: getting this kind of value makes me wonder if they don’t just keep Blake
I don’t think they’re related, but getting a C2 option at league minimum doesn’t hurt.
