    Braves say yes to this as long as they think there’s room in the budget. I think they’d even be ok with him opting out after 2 years, but that’s part of what makes this tricky. He’s on a market-value contract so there’s not much surplus to play with. I really think he’s going to bail on COL no matter what, so the Rockies have to take that into consideration when viewing trade offers. They’re looking at spending $70M over 2 years and getting a comp pick at the end of that time. Are they really competing in their division in that time frame? I’m not so sure. All that talk of “face of the franchise” is also the wrong mantra. Either get the guy surrounded with more talent, or start looking for anything that will have you end up with more than a comp pick in two years. I think a mid-season trade makes more sense, but it’s not pretty right now.
