Meant to be completed after the season, and into the next offseason. A little bit of an overpayment by BTV standards, but I still think it fits the Rockies needs well.

Rays get: Kiermaier contract in its entirety comes off the books. Hilliard is brought in as a project replacement lefty outfielder, definitely someone the Rays would experiment with as he’s been seen as a 5-tool potential player. Colton Welker is brought in to at least ease the damage of Jones/Baz leaving the farm system and is also a quality corner bat himself.

Jon Gray though is the best get for the Rays. Always seen as a pitcher who would either be great outside of Coors or just needs a few adjustments to be ace-like by Rockies fans. The Rays could get the best out of him.

Rockies Get: Kiermaier does fill a definite need for CF defence (especially against righties) so while he’s a little pricey, he’s definitely worth it for the Rockies. Though for taking the contract in its entirety? Restocking of the farm system a bit, with a high risk/high reward pitcher in Shane Baz, while also upgrading at the shortstop depth with Jones. The Rockies always need pitching, so Shane Baz is well worth the risk. Greg Jones himself is brought in, as trading away Vavra took away some middle infield depth.

As for Gray, the Rockies are finally in a position to be able to trade him. Marquez/Freeland/Senzatela/Castellani have fastened themselves as future rotation options, Lambert could fit right in, as well as Rolison coming up soon.

Finding a pitcher who can pitch in Coors in very hard.
The Rockies do not trade Gray.
Guys can play center, and hit in Coors, pitching is very very hard to find.

I disagree, I am a Rockies fan too. Gray’s a good pitcher, but he’s expiring and we need to make sure money is cleared for a Story extension. Now? We finally are about to have the depth to do it with the re-emergence of Senzatela, Lambert coming back next year, and Rolison also coming soon.

For the other part, yeah people can play center but ONLY Hampson can play it well. Kiermaier is literally the best defensive OF in baseball and his defensive value in the toughest OF in baseball would be incredibly valuable.
