While this deal works out and even makes some sense for the Rockies, it does not take into account the extremely relevant “Jeff Birdich Factor” where he overvalues his own players and probably means that a team would need to offer up double Gray’s valuation to acquire one season of him.
The Sox obviously need pitching and would need to extend Gray if they had any faith in him. As Wong was part of Plan B in the Betts deal after they failed to get any pitching, I can see both him and Jeter Downs being moved for arms if deals can be found.
As you said, if Gray could be extended, makes sense for Boston. If not, pass on dealing Wong. Cannon and another one of Chatham, Wilson, Aruaz would be fine.
