Looks about right — small overpay to win the bid. Patino is the big get, who will likely be their TOR starter of the future, replacing Snell. Mejia could slot in as their second catcher, and the two prospects are far enough away that they don’t have to be added to the 40 yet, which is typical for a Rays trade.
Not so sure Mejia slots as the second catcher. Not like Zunino has a stranglehold on the position. But the win for San Diego was holding on to Campusano.
I like it from both sides as well. Snell is a bargain for the next three years. Patiño has Ace potential, and getting Wilcox was a sneaky good addition.

I like the return as a Rays fan. Catching position has been such a weak spot and now rays have 2 top 100 caliber catcher prospects and the former top catching prospect in baseball who is only 25.
Shoutout to this site. Pretty accurate values. So shoutout to y’all for that. Typically the side that’s getting prospects gets the better deal so this was extremely accurate values. Good work
As a Rays’ fan, I love the addition of both Patino and Wilcox. If the Rays can fix the latter’s delivery, that’s two TOR pitchers in one trade.
I’m a little surprised they included Mejia in the trade, as he doesn’t fit the Rays’ traditional catcher profile, but otherwise this is a perfect Rays trade.
2021 was always going to be a transition year for the Rays. Too many top prospects to transition to the Majors. This trade shows the Rays are going all in on the transition. Expect a KK trade and possibly a Castillo/Anderson trade before February.

MP, do the Rays have to make another move quickly for 40-man space? They drop Snell from the 40, but have to add Patino and Mejia. So does that mean another move is coming?
Yes, they have a full 40 man roster right now. I haven’t heard any reports of who they may dfa or trade… BUT I have heard that the Padres are working to acquire Darvish in addition to Snell. Perhaps this trade is a 3 way, which would help iron out the 40 man issue. I wouldn’t mind the Rays adding Amaya or Davis from the Cubs.

If the Padres complete this trade, then they should go on a free agent spending spree. They need to build solid bullpen. Brad Hand and Liam Hendriks would fit the bill. The Padres got the cap space. Their winning seasons will gradually weaken their farm system. If Altanta used some of their prospects to bloster their roster then watch out. Dodgers have instant competition. Will the Dodgers go over the luxury tax?
If I were a GM and the Rays ask me for any player, especially a pitcher, I’m hanging up the phone and figuring out what they know that I don’t. Good deal for both sides though. Padres add pieces and Rays retool to remain a constant 90 win team.

I like it for both teams.
Don’t sleep on Wilcox.. a lot of helium there…
If TB thinks Mejia still has value, who are we to argue with them?
Seems like he was probably the last throw-in.
I’m still on the mmmh or ehhh. Lot of Rays fans would probably reject the Mejia to be included in the trade

Big time. This was an EASY yes for SD

Any Rays fan hates this trade
Quite a few at DRB aren’t loving it. Mostly because they wanted the Rays to add and try to get back to the WS.

Yup. Good get for the Rays, and a TOR starter to be reckoned with for the Fathers.

Thanks very much!
Yup, pretty damn close.

But they have already made this trade.
Still pending medicals… and there are now reports that the Padres are acquiring Darvish too. Perhaps a 3 way…
I’m just saying, I know the Rays wanted Fransisco Mejia from the beginning.
Really? I hadn’t heard that.
