    Thanks to @mp2891.

*This assumes that the Angels are not going to resign Andrelton Simmons from FA.*

The departure of Andrelton has created a hole in the infield, and Xavien Howard could fill that spot alongside Fletch. Nick Anderson anchors a ‘pen with Raisel Iglesias and Alex Claudio. He had a great season for the Rays; however, Diego Castillo did too, making Anderson a trade chip.

From the Rays’ standpoint, Brandon Marsh can replace KK in the outfield as they go full force into the Wander Years.

There is one big caveat to this trade. If J.Lowe looked awesome in instructionals last year, there’s probably zero chance of the Rays paying that kind of price for a prospect. If they aren’t 100% sold on J.Lowe though, adding Marsh and letting the best man win of Marsh, J.Lowe and Phillips makes sense to me. The CF position is too important to the Rays strategy of good pitching and exceptional defense to not have a top player at the position.

Did people just forget that the Angels traded for Jose Iglesias?

What about him? Isn’t he playing SS for the Angels? Edwards is better suited for 2B.

This trade is made on the premise that the Angels have a hole in the middle infield. But they don’t now. Iglesias is playing SS. Fletcher is at 2B.

Why does this trade happen when both holes are filled?

I can’t speak for the Angels since I’m a Rays fan, but I see it like this – The Rays are trading one of the top closers in the game to the Angels, who need to improve both their Pen and their Rotation in 21, plus a top 2B/SS prospect who is 1-2 years away, and in return, the Angels are trading 2 prospects. The Angels 21 team is improved with this trade, and the future will be what it will be. Iglesias will be a free agent in 22, which happens to be the absolute earliest Edwards will be called up.

I can’t speak for the Rays bc I’m an Angels fan, but…

The Angels get a great 2B prospect who takes over once Jose Iglesias’s contract expires. Brandon Marsh can take over for KK. Nick Anderson helps the weak bullpen.

Can this get a feature? I mean, I think it fits the bill…
