    Probably a little better,

I am not sure if Braves’ fans will miss Wright, whose last appearance for the Braves was his start in Game 3 of the NLCS in which he got hammered like a sorority girl on Jell-O shot night.

    • Travis Tarver

dude Wright has a ton of potential – he has a whopping 63 career innings under his belt at this point.

      • Will M

Yes and that is why the Cubs would accept him. Kris Bryant is still pretty good, too.

If the QO remains a thing, this might be OK for the Braves. If Bryant plays well enough to be attractive for a lucrative long term deal, the Braves could QO him and essentially turn Wright into some new prospect working his way through the system.

    • Will M

The existing QO system does help the Braves a bit here. But even if they remove the QO system, there is going to be some sort of draft pick compensation for lost free agents. I can’t see MLB abandoning the small market teams by eliminating that altogether. So the Braves should get something else besides just Bryant.

Bryse Wilson is another option, if the Braves would rather hold on to Wright. This would be a really good move by the Cubs, who could use that 17mln and spend it on Wong and Greene for example.

    • Will M

Wilson was also a candidate. But the $5mill put the value closer to Wright (but both deals would have been acceptable). The $5mill also means the $17mill is actually $12mill saved by the Cubs, which might not be enough to get Wong and Greene. (But hey, who knows what kind of money Shane Greene will want.)

If I’m the Cubs I keep Bryant and go for it in a weak NL Central. But if I’m in a dealing mode, I want more than Wright, who has talent but is a little scary. I need a CF and the Braves have 3 (inciarte, Pache, and Waters). So I take on the Inciarte contract in hopes he has a comeback and let the Braves toss in cash. Money equates to about the same for both sides. I also want Camargo at backup at 3rd and 2nd. And if the Braves pass, fine. Let them try to sign somebody better at less money. Bryant is a star and will have a monster year before hitting FA. At least, that’s Boras’ plan.

This is a good move. I imagine any Braves fan would like to see Kyle Wright go, but…I don’t know if the Braves would want Kris Bryant. Has everyone forgotten the fact that Austin Riley is on the team too?

Also, the OF could benefit, but I wonder who’ll be a taker for Ender Inciarte.
