The Reds still need a shortstop as Jonathan Villar still has not signed yet. After the Andrus-Davis trade, the Rangers don’t really have a spot for Willie Calhoun, and the Indians have an opening in their outfield for him. The Indians get Calhoun and then Lodolo as payment for throwing in Logan Allen to the Rangers to be on their rotation. For giving up Calhoun, White, and Weems, the Rangers get Logan Allen, and Jose De Leon, a low risk, high reward type of guy who could be in their rotation, and if not, in their bullpen. The Reds get compensated with more minor league pitching (Weems and White), their shortstop for now, and another MIF prospect. Thoughts?

  2. Chad Smith

I doubt the Reds would be willing to part with Lodolo. He is their number one prospect and will probably be in the Red’s rotation at some point this season

I know that and I tried to find another guy, but I didn’t find one I thought was worthy. Remember, Amed was acquired for Francisco Lindor. The Indians must’ve had a really high worth for him in their eyes, and I doubt that they’d give him up for a couple of low-level guys. I think this could be an accurate view as to what the Indians think of Rosario, and I think his value should be higher on this site, given the rest of the return for Lindor. But that’s just my opinion.

I like the overall structure of the trade. De Leon would be intriguing pickup for the Rangers, as he’s out of options and may not be immediately impactful enough to be a part of Reds team that wants to compete now. My only issue is the inclusion of Lodolo. The Reds have a shortage of pitching so I have doubts that they would give up their top pitching prospect without getting someone that’s a clear upgrade in return, which I doubt neither White or Weems will be, especiallly since Lodolo could be contributing to the major league team as early as next year.

To add to what I said before, I agree that Lodolo is highly thought of and tough to get, but I think the Indians might require him given the rest of the players they got with him for Lindor weren’t that great (other than Gimenez). I also think that if they were to acquire Lodolo, that might make an Aaron Civale or Adam Plutko trade more likely, potentially a Zach Plesac one as well.

Mike Siani (OF; 5.3) + Amir Garrett (LHRP; 6.2) = Lodolo (LHSP; 11.7)

In general.. the Indians tend towards multiple players as opposed to “all the eggs in one basket” kind of approach. With well thought of prospects.. this would be preferred.. however, IDK that losing Amir Garrett is any more palatable as losing Lodolo?..

Previously, I had thought of involving Garrett in this trade, but I did a similar trade earlier and got blasted for including Garrett
