Before you say “The A’s would never trade Matt Chapman, this is ridiculous” this is based on the rumors from the offseason about the Mets being in trade talks with the A’s about Chapman.

Rumors that came only from a single NY talk radio sports jock and no one else.

I think A’s could and most likely will trade Matt Chapman… but not for what you’re proposing.

Mauricio is popular in these deals but given Oakland’s investment in SS talent they may prefer Alvarez instead. Would that be a deal breaker for the Mets?

Once Mauricio/Alvarez got settled I believe Oakland would want arms and they’d want Matt Allan, not a guy still recovering from TJS. The A’s have the leverage to insist on Allan in a deal because there will be other teams interested in Chapman.

Keep Vientos while dropping Ginn, Lee, and the cash and you’ve got a competitive Mets bid.

Also… thank you for trying to pitch JD Davis.

The mets wouldn’t be willing to give up another one of their best prospects (Allan), already giving up Marucio, Lee, and Vientos. Also the A’s top prospect is already a catcher, hence why I didn’t include Alvarez. I think Alvarez and Marucio might be interchangeable but the Mets would more likely give up Marucio with Lindor being in NY for 10 more years

Soderstrom is a Catcher but his bat is well ahead of the glove and the A’s really love his bat; there might be a position switch in his near future and acquiring an Alvarez-type prospect might be the trigger.

That’s a lot of hypothetical and I’m not pounding the table for Alvarez. I was just curious about the NY-centric viewpoint.

Where I will pound the table is on Allan. He’s the second piece in the deal and the Mets can haggle over the final components. If you can’t include Allan with Lee and Vientos then drop Lee and Vientos and go from there.
