This is a good trade for both parties (I’m a White Sox fan). The Sox are getting rich-rod who so far has (arguably) been the best closer in baseball this season, been reliable in the past (career 135+ OPS+ which crazy good), Rodriguez also has at least 2 and a half years of control so the Sox can have him for a while. Rodriguez would not take the closer role (we’re paying Hendriks 50 million) but would most likely be our 8th inning guy. The downsides of Rodriguez are that he old (31), only been on crappy teams, and his work is sustainable. You can’t have a fucking 873 ERA+ (that is not a typo), and 0.3 WHIP (that is also not a typo) through 18 games so he is bound to “regress hard” to around 174 ERA+, and 0.8 WHIP. This is the highest value that Pittsburgh will ever get for him so that’s that.

Crick is more of a filler but I think that he can be a piece in the Sox bullpen, maybe a significant piece. One thing about Crick is that as of late he’s had a bit of an injury issue. Crick one thing I want to point has the best slider in baseball so please do yourself and look at his slider on stat cast. Crick so far this year in a limited 11.1 innings has a 263 ERA+, and a 0.6 WHIP so that is also outstanding work. He has 3.50 FIP much better than Rodriguez 2.73 FIP so he’s not gonna be bound to regress as much. Crick like Rich-Rod 2 and a half more years of control.

You can’t judge the Pirates, though. Neither can I, but oh, well. They wouldn’t want MLB talent. Give them 3-4 1TV prospects and maybe they’ll accept.
