This move would allow the Padres to shed Wil Myers along with his contract and add another star into their lineup. Byron would play center, Grisham would play right, and Cronenworth could play left with Tatis shifting back to short stop. Remember, Tommy Pham is a free agent after the year. On the Twins side, sure they’ll take on Myers’ contract in order to get a Top 100 prospect along with 2 other solid prospects. Thoughts?

Myers is due a lot next season ($22.5 mill plus a very likely $1mill buyout), but with one season left on his deal, even small market Minnesota might not be so reluctant. Plus Buxton would probably make about $7-8 mill, which softens the impact.

But then the Twins took a step backwards from remaining competitive when they dealt Berrios despite his having another year of control remaining.

The Twins are only a year away from winning consecutive Central titles. They are saying they hope to compete next year. None of the prospects are anywhere close to MLB ready and would be no help for at least a couple of years. With a smaller market, restricted budget team, I can’t see any way they would take on $23M for Myers. They have too many other needs to waste that kind of money.
