The Mets would love this trade. They give up next to nothing and get Hader. The Rays get garbage and a DH. IMO the Brewers hang up very, very quickly. Margot would be the 4th or 5th outfielder. Wendle would be another back-up infielder. Ramirez is 18 and no help for 3-5 years, if ever. Far too little for the best reliever in baseball.

I think the Rays would be fine with this trade if they aren’t planning to trade KK, but I now think they are planning to trade KK, so Margot would have to come out of this trade. I really like the idea of Davis to the Rays to play DH, and Wendle and Yarbs are definitely expendable. Take Margot, Blankenhorn and Hamel out of the trade and have the Rays add a small third piece to make up a little trade value, and I think you might have something. Whether the Mets would be willing to eat JBJ’s salary to reduce Hader’s trade cost is a different story. Mets have no need for JBJ with their recent additions to the outfield.

Aautry – Wendle may be a backup for the Brewers, but his wRC+ and defense make him essentially equivalent to Wong and Urias overall, and Wendle hits RHP much better than both. With most pitchers in the league being righties, my suspicion is that Wendle would get as many if not more ABs/innings than Wong and Urias. Brewers would definitely benefit from having a player like Wendle in the fold. They might also try to trade Wong, given his salary is more than twice Wendle’s and there’s no appreciable difference in performance. Wendle can also play SS reasonably well too. I agree that Margot is best used as a 4th outfielder. He’s an excellent defender and his bat is pretty good against LHP. He may not be a great fit in the corners, but sub him for Cain against LHP and you instantly improve the Brewer’s offense without sacrificing the defense all that much. That said, I don’t know that the Rays are willing to move him.

Mp2891: Are you surprised on the return for Wendle? I realize he’s a good power prospect and he’s to have to cut down on his strikeouts. I assume the Rays FO must be high on the prospect but I’m surprised they didn’t get more for Wendle.
