Guarantees Andrus will be starting SS, which causes his 2023 Player Option to vest, which costs the A’s $15M in 2023.
Using Olympics SS Nick Allen (simmering in AAA and the reason Andrus won’t make 550 PA in 2022) to dump Piscotty’s $8.6M in 2022 is about the single dumbest move the A’s could make.
They could bring Big Country out of retirement.
Billy ‘Country Breakfast’ Butler?
“As of 2017, he was playing softball for a team named Pharmgrade in the Idaho Falls Parks & Rec Men’s League.”
… he’d be cheaper than Andrus, but yeah, still worse to use Nick Allen to dump Piscotty.
Billy Butler agreed to play on a team that still had Josh Donaldson and Brandon Moss. Two weeks later both had been traded. I’m no Butler fan but he hit better for Oakland in ’15 and ’16 than he did for KC in ’14. At 3/30 it was an overpay even at the time but the “single dumbest move the A’s could make” would have to be reserved for the Donaldson trade itself or at least the more general decision to not go for another run in ’15.
It was a joke about stupid things the A’s could do now… not a review of past stupid decisions.
No way the Reds trade five players for one year of control in Bassitt
Just wondering, who do you think will be missed most?
Allen and Ashcraft. Don’t be surprised if Ashcraft reaches the show this season (if there is one, that is).
Thanks for the feed back, I’ve thought the same & have started to include them in trades lately.
