Red sox got a steal. Nathan Eovaldi is a veteran and will be turning into a free agent this year. Not sure if the Mets can resign him. Megill is really young and has years of control. Not sure if the mets would want more than just Eovaldi?

I don’t think the Mets would want Eovaldi in the first place. They currently have a 2021 all star as their #5 pitcher. When deGrom comes back their rotation depth is going to look like DeGrom, Scherzer, Bassitt, McGill, Carrasco, Walker. And McGill is their only cheap SP option for the time being.

I agree & think a PTBNL could be added but it’s a difficult thing to do, I thought about adding in cash, (4.8 or some portion of it) and commenting that it represented a PTBNL but decided to just post it as is. I think the Red Sox have some interesting trade trade chips for the deadline. Several who are free agents at the end of the year.

If my Mets did this trade, I would be heavily disappointed. Megill is a keeper.

This trade is doodoo. Mets don’t need a veteran SP they have scherzer, deGrom and bassitt. And they’re giving up 5 yrs of control in a good SP for 1 season of Nathan Eovaldi? Ask yourself if you’d trade Whitlock for 1 year of Eovaldi…
