I remain baffled why, with so much available screen real estate, the site continues to identify players only by their last names. Yeah, “Benintendi” is enough to identify the guy the Royals will trade, but “Vasquez”? C’mon.
I must not be as well-informed as the rest of the readers here because references just to “Vasquez” – or “Smith” or “Sanchez” or any other common name – require me to click on the name link and then to wait the 15 or 20 seconds or so that this slow site takes on my phone to bring up the individual player links.
Mind you, I might not be as informed as I should be. I am embarrassed that I hadn’t heard of a player that you consider to be of equal value to Benintendi. So, having even a full name listing wouldn’t always save me from having to click on the link to get a better picture of the player’s value. I can’t help but think, though, that it would save many, if not most, readers time over the long haul.
Mike–
Thanks for your feedback. We’re working on both issues. Thanks for your patience.
The Yank’s are facing a dilemma; do they give Judge what he’s asking for or let him get to the open market. The California teams would create a nice bidding war being his home state.
Bene might go to the Yankees and place a little pressure on the Judge Camp. Bene is a good defender and a decent hitter.
Judge may be somewhat injury prone but as a RSox fan I’d love to see him hit the open market.
Interesting idea – but for a franchise like NYY, spots on the 40 man are a scarce commodity. Unless I’m mistaken, Vasquez isn’t on it – so they’d have to boot someone to make room for Benintendi.
They are also currently running a $246M payroll (per Roster Resource). I believe the next threshold is $250M. With Benintendi at $8.5M (pro-rated), they’d be tiptoeing awfully close to that line to add an OK piece to an outfield that already has Judge, Gallo, Stanton, and Hicks (with Florial as a plus-glove 5th outfielder – with Locastro due back from the IL before the ASB).
I don’t think it fits. (And if it did, they could presumably get some/much of the benefit at a fraction of the cost by picking up the phone to call Brett Gardner.)
Hey DBA, thanks for reading – just a couple things
1. Vasquez would’ve been eligible for the R5 last winter but of course that didn’t happen. He’ll be part of the winter ‘22 crunch so he’s someone they’ll need to make a decision on.
2. My idea was to acquire Benintendi & ship Gallo to San Diego as they’ve shown interest previously. Better fit for both sides, recoup prospect capital & salaries fit.
Benintendi isn’t getting traded to NYY…he’ll be dealt to a team in need of a COF more than NYY
Watch out for Philly or ATL to make a deal; Harper can’t play the field all season, Castellanos and Schwarber look as bad as expected defensively. Duvall and Rosario have regressed as well.
