They should erect a statue of A J Preller. Put it in the middle of San Diego Bay, sorta like the Statue of Liberty.
Yesterday, he gets Soto and Bell. Gives up Gore in the process. Then picks up Groome, a poor man’s Gore. Maybe better if Gore’s elbow blows up. He also gets Drury. Dumps Hosmer, which is like a pickup.
So, what does he really give up for a future Hall of Famer, a star player rental and a star reserve rental? Abrams, who looks shaky, Hassell III and Wood (My guess is only one of the two become an impact player), and some real iffy youngsters.
Maybe they should rename the city. Call it AJ Diego.
Galaxy-brain trade by Boston and the fans could not be any less appreciative. This deal worked out for both sides very well considering SD will save money against the CBT under the new rules even by paying Boston nearly his entire contract. Furthermore, Groome needed to be dealt or they risk losing him to rule-5 for nothing (he is not going to contribute to the MLB club any time soon). Now, if things don’t really work out with Hosmer for whatever reason, SD just created pretty decent trade value for him going forward.
Has the cash been reported as $36? I can’t find anything on cash.
Just reported as $44M. Bloom had all the leverage here.
Wow, $44m
