Believe it or not, Homer Bailey has turned himself into a trade chip. He’s pitching like a league-average starter as of late, who could provide some stability to the A’s rotation, and he has a bit of positive value since the Dodgers are eating all of his salary except for what’s left of the league minimum. Diekman could also help stabilize the bullpen, as an upgrade over Buchter.
The Royals get an OF prospect and two marginal pitching prospects. Sneaky deal on the cheap where everybody benefits?
Can we just do Diekman for Bolt straight up? A’s only need a fill-in starter for about a month and would prefer to save Howard as a secondary piece for something more substantial (such as Wahl for Familia last year).

Yes, that’s a variation. I just thought it was interesting that Bailey has started to turn things around, plus he’s cheap and under the radar.
