Oakland needs arms Giants need cheap talented players and Piscotty got traded to the Bay Area to be close to family and this trade keeps him there

A’s want arms with years of control and don’t need more outfield prospects. In the short-term, they have arms in the minors healing up and getting ready to contribute after ASB (Luzardo, Manaea, Puk). Piscotty is a hometown favorite whose family has had A’s season tickets for decades and kept them even though they could get free tickets through him.

Giants will want a haul to send to the farm system for Bumgarner, much less Bumgarner plus Smith and an outfield prospect. Piscotty isn’t that.

Also, there’s the whole thing where the A’s and Giants haven’t made a player trade in almost 30 years.

Feels like an underpay on the A’s side. That’s a lot of talent heading our way for a good but replaceable right fielder.
