Escobar is a good player and can play 3B who is a massive hole in the lineup, Maikel Franco has been starting but he is extremely streaky and overall not a good player, Escobar´s contract is until 2021 and he can definetly stick on the roster after this year. Ultimately the Phillies are making an upgrade while not giving up much of their future assets.
I like the Phillies as a fit for Escobar, and I even thought they’d try and sign him in the offseason. But I think, given his strong performance and their place in the standings, the D-Backs are more likely to value him closer to the high end of his range. Plus, Holmes’ value is probably a bit too high, since he’s striking out 31% of the time as a 21-year-old in Single-A — I’ll take a look.
