Real trade. We were clearly off on this one. Jones is not far removed from being a top prospect, and since he’s had very little MLB time, that’s still carrying his value. What I don’t get is why Cleveland would want yet another middle infielder who will need to be added to the 40 or else left unprotected for the Rule 5.

After the season he had, I would assume Brito’s value will shoot up to make this closer to even once prospect lists get updated.

But in any case writing was on the wall for Jones. Valera, Brennan and Benson offer more as lefty outfielders, and Ramirez is locked up long term at 3rd. Brito’s profile seems like a great organizational fit for Cleveland, and doesn’t immediately contribute to the infield logjam since he’s a few seasons away, and probably can be moved around positionally anyway. Only downside is rule 5 eligibility. I would imagine one or more of Rosario, Arias, Freeman, and Tena will be traded before next season.

Still curious what CLE will do to address the RH bat shortage and catcher.

My guess is this is the first step to other moves. We will see. It is still only November

I thought Cleveland would never trade their prospects, I’ve received plenty of comments about my trades telling me that Cleveland would never trade this “prospect” and about how they’re too valuable to keep. Anyway I’d say the Rockies won this trade as on the player the Guardians got back isn’t even a top 30 prospect on their system. From what I read, Brito at best can be an average player. He isn’t fast though but his hitting is just developing. Nolan Jones is now the 11th best prospect in the Rockies farm system with the potential to secure one of the three out fielding positions in Colorado.

Nobody ever said that Cleveland would never trade their prospects. There are untouchables, but Jones obviously wasn’t one of them and he should have been dealt last year.

I’d be cautious on what you read about Brito. He fits Cleveland’s recent mold of hitters and he’s better defensively than his report suggests. Evidently he has pretty good range at 2B and a strong arm. That’s what I heard anyway, but the jury is still out. Keep in mind that Cleveland is one of the better ran organizations in baseball so this deal should not be judged on the surface. We’ll see what happens, but Brito will likely advance quickly with his excellent bat to ball skills.

Actually most of the Cleveland fans had Jones actually available, but most trades either targeted, players Cleveland doesn’t want or including in guys Cleveland just isn’t going to trade…

Cleveland doesn’t do things anywhere near the national media ranks and this is a good example of that. Most of the educated Cleveland were confused as well who we got in return for Jones, but we weren’t surprised Jones was traded (if anything we were expecting it).

When it comes to Brito, I feel like he is a switch hitter in the same mold of guys like Kwan and Brennan… Remember no one had Kwan ranked before the 21 season and almost no one had him ranked before the 22… We are hoping the guys who worked with Kwan and Brennan can repeat the magic again with Brito… A switch hitting .300 hitter… I think I could live with that…

Brito played 3 years in low minors and his obp was over .400 every year,,,pretty impressive.
Could be a scenario of one prospect leveling off and another about to potentially blow up.
I don’t mind it from the Guardians perspective.

Cleveland has developed guys like Brito, the heavy contact, solid BB rate and low SO rate very well lately like Kwan… We are hoping Brito follows those guys who Cleveland has been developing…
