I could see something like this going down. Provides the Rays with a strong lefty bat at a cost of 3 decent prospects – 1 with a high floor and 2 very high risk high reward prospects.

    Down vote for Oakland.

Gaston face-planted in 2022, including a wretched 15 BB/8.1 IP performance in the AFL. Sasaki is a 22 year old speedster that hasn’t played above Low-A.

Basabe doesn’t have the ceiling to make those lotto tickets worthwhile. I’m not sure he has the arm to stick on the left-side, making 2B the only place his bat plays because of below-average Power.

And to include Acton to close the deal? Hell. No.

Why are you concerned with Basabe’s arm? Every report I’ve seen gives it a 55 grade.

Gaston’s 22 was the epitome of a pitcher who struggles with control. When on, he’s absolutely dominant. When off, it’s bad. As I said, high risk high reward. I wouldn’t call it a face plant by any means.

Sasaki is more than a speedster. He’s potentially a very good fielder and that bat (151 wRC+ in 22 over 402 PAs) should play at the next level. He’s someone to keep an eye on.

All things considered, I’d rather the Rays keep Sasaki and Gaston than trade either of them for Acton (now there’s a face plant).

BA just gave Basabe a 50 Throw. BP says he has to muscle up to make the harder throws from the left side.

Gaston has been in pro ball since 2019 and walked more batters than innings pitched in 2022.

Let’s see Sasaki do it at a higher level before buying stock.

So 50 grade is probably Basabe’s floor then, because MLB and Fangraphs give him 55 grades.

LOL… As I said, when Gaston ain’t on, it’s ugly. Maybe it’s fugly, cause I didn’t realize the BB/IP was that bad. Still, he had a lot of nearly clean games last year too. With a 70 grade heater, he just needs to develop that control to be a huge threat (probably as a late innings reliever, not as a SP).
