On July 24th, the New York Mets will trade Eduardo Escobar, Mark Canha, Darin Ruf, Tylor Megill, minor-league shortstop Ronny Mauricio, and minor-league pitcher Blade Tidwell to the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for Tommy Edman.
Why would the Cardinals give up Tommy Edman?
Because the Mets will move Jeff McNeil to left field, so Tommy Edman will play 2nd base for the Mets.
I didn’t ask why the Mets would want Edman, I am saying that I don’t think the Cardinals would give up Tommy Edman because he’s their starting shortsop and a fringe all star player and was 10th in position player WAR in all MLB 7th in NL in 2022 at 27 years old. They are also working on an extension.
