Because the Rays already have arguably the best rotation in baseball. Because the Rays did not give Eflin the largest free agent contract in team history to make him a reliever. Because as good as Burnes and Bieber are, they only have 1 and 2 years of control remaining and their salaries would push Rays payroll much higher than their highest ever payroll (which means this would be a 1 year all in move). Because pitching is not the reason the Rays were bounced from the post- season last year. Rays need bats, not pitching, and this trade has the Rays trading their 2 most promising bats.
I could go on, but the main take away is this – if the Rays are going to mortgage the future for a 1-2 year window, it will be to acquire bats not arms. No matter how good the Rays pitching is, Rays can’t win if they don’t score.
I think that there are a lot of good SP staffs in baseball this year;
Atlanta, Cleveland, Houston, L.A.Dodgers, Milwaukee, N.Y. Mets, N.Y. Yankees, Philadelphia, San Diego, Seattle, Tampa Bay, Toronto,
Could surprise;
White Sox, Angels, Marlins, Twins, Cardinals,
Tampa could be pretty deep with Patino and others (especially when Baz & Kittredge are ready) but I’m just not a believer in Springs or Rasmussen.
The Bats just need to improve and stay healthy. Brandon Lowe especially. I think they should play him more at 1B and give Brujan another shot at 2B and he needs to improve. Franco as well
Lol. No chance the Rays consider a trade like this.
Lol, Why not? A lot to give up but World Series SP Domination, holy cow!
Burns
Bieber
Glasnow
McClanahan
Springs
Baz
Kittredge
Patino

Rays have moved on from Patino. He’s the #7 pitcher at best this year (ie: after the starting 5 and Taj Bradley).
Springs and Ras don’t care if you’re a believer. They are 3-5 fWAR pitchers and are going to have good years. They’ve been very good with the Rays.
All three teams say no.
